Holiday Gift Guide, Pandemic Notwithstanding
It's the most wonderful time of the year! Okay, maybe not really. Grand Christmas parties and Holiday events may be cancelled this year, but gift-giving is definitely still on the table.
Christmas shopping may have been one of our favourite activities in the past. Shuffling through crowds, enjoying the music blasting from speakers, taking a quick break with some treats. Those are all a thing of the past now.
But it does not have to be sad! Now it's up to us, and our quarantined selves to create a new tradition. How about playing jolly old Christmas music, opening a bottle of wine, dressing up in a festive jacket, and ordering online!
Make this new experience a little special. And of course, remind your family and friends that you love them. Show them how happy you are we've made it this far.
These gift ideas are budget-friendly and won't break the bank.
Cards
Here's something for your grandparents, or anyone who appreciates a little hand-written something. Etsy has full of hand-made pieces that you can order.
The beauty of cards is that it's old-fashioned, it's easier to ship out, and have tonnes of options. Not many will appreciate this gift though, so choose this only for those who appreciate a little sentimental letter (and don't need much). For good measure, add a photo of the two of you.
Food
For friends and families who are within the area, who you would've shared a Christmas party with, this is an ideal gift. You can DIY a gift basket full of sweets and treats. Or you can order from your neighbourhood cafe or restaurant and have them deliver to the doorstep.
Flowers
Flowers may not be the most common holiday present, but for the right person, it is a lovely gesture. Online florists offer dried flowers in a gorgeous box. This can be a great present for a mentor, a boss, or a teacher.
Music
This can be an intimate and sweet gift. Order a record of their favourite artist or the best album from the year they were born. Your music-loving friend will enjoy listening to music that bonds both of you. Plus points for a signed disc.
If you want to keep it budget-friendly, you may also create a special playlist and send it to a friend. That's the 2020 version of a mixtape.
Plants
Plants have gained popularity this year because more people want to be surrounded by nature. Give a loved one a blooming potted plant that is ready for display. Or, for fun, you can also send a Growing Kit. You can give this to someone you know who is the least of green thumbs. It will be a new experience for them!
Books
Of course, what would the holiday gift-giving tradition be without books? There's a book for everyone. And even those who don't read may try to pick this habit up this season. So give me titles you've enjoyed or have topped the best-sellers list.
Health and Beauty
Just because there's a pandemic on doesn't mean you'll stop grooming yourself. Self-care is important! And you can give that gift in the form of special creams and essential oils.
