Boost your Immune System Against Viruses

If you check the news these days, you'll notice that a viral outbreak is spreading fast and causing alarm all over the world. The 2019 novel coronavirus, officially called "Covid-19", isn't considered as lethal as the Sars virus or as deadly as the Mers-Cov. But it is infectious!

While there's not yet any medicine to treat anyone who has the virus, there are definitely ways you can protect yourself from it.

There are easy, simple steps to boost your immune system against viruses.

1.    Exercise and don't miss out on sleep

Breaking a sweat can reduce your risk of catching the virus. Research shows that people who exercise regularly don't get sick as often. It's a natural immune-booster, not to mention you'll feel much better. Exercise releases endorphins and serotonin - happy hormones.

But don't sacrifice your sleeping hours just to catch up on exercise. Getting enough hours of shut-eye is equally important as exercising.

2.    Sanitize your hands regularly

Hand hygiene is considered a primary defense against infection. Like the flu and common colds, Covid-19 is spread via droplets when someone sneezes or coughs. People will catch the virus when they touch the surfaces where the droplets have landed and then proceed to touch their mouth, nose, or eyes. Gross, we know!

Frequent hand washing is the best way you can protect yourself. Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds. Carry a hand sanitizer with you at all times.

Hand sanitizer alternative: Plenty of hand sanitizers can be too harsh for the skin causing it to crack. That'll make it susceptible to even more viruses. Lavender oil is a great natural alternative. It can sanitize the skin and soothe dryness.

3.    Sanitize your surroundings, too!

Because touching contaminated surfaces is one way of contracting the virus, habitually sanitize everything. Regularly clean surfaces like tables and doorknobs. Sanitize your phones, computers, and tablets. Go for cleaning solutions that won't damage your things. Research shows that tea tree oil is anti-bacterial and can be used as a cleaning alternative.

4.    Avoid Processed Foods

Eating vegetables and fruits that are high in antioxidants will protect your body from viruses. Instead of eating junk that's harmful to your body, like unnatural sugar and processed food, boost your immune system's defenses with nutrients. Juicing fruits and vegetables is even more beneficial! The higher your average daily consumption, the lower the risk of diseases. With juices, you can consume more.

5.    Don't Stress

The state of your mind will always affect your body. And while the news of the virus may be panic-inducing, it's best to remember that anxiety does more damage to your immune system. Follow these simple tips to boost your immune system. Your good health is still the most effective preventive measure against viral infection. Stay healthy!
