Dermatologist Approved Skin Care Habits

Achieve your skincare goals with these 5 Dermatologist Tips.

Summer is upon us and after a few months of staying at home, and sheltering-in-place, we're all so very eager to get a little bit of outside time. But before you head outside (with all safety precautions), don't forget to take good care of your skin!

These are tried and tested tips that will protect your skin and give you that healthy glow.

Wear sunscreen every day.

But I'm not stepping out today!

It's raining lots!

I don't see the sun out!

This is a common misconception that we should throw out now. Wearing sunscreen is a must! Harmful rays are always present in our atmosphere no matter the temperature or season we're in. That means your skin should always be protected. Ultraviolet radiation damages the skin. It's one of the causes of skin ageing (gasp at wrinkles and spots!)

Dermatologist Dr Sejal Shah says, "Sunscreen, which protects the skin against harmful UVR, is crucial to protecting the skin."

Add Vitamin C Serum to Your Routine.

After covering your skin with sunscreen, reach for a vitamin C antioxidant serum. It is a tried-and-tested product to fight against anti-ageing. More than that, it protects you from free radicals from the environment. Vitamin C is an anti-oxidant which has ingredients that is a far superior ingredient than retinoids. All skin types can tolerate vitamin c serum. Achieve that elastic and healthy skin!

Wash off your makeup.

It can happen to anyone. You've spent the late hours of the night finishing up on work. Or you've gone out with friends and after a long day, you pass out on your own bed without taking off your make up.

Or, you've spent the whole day at home and harmlessly head for your bed without washing your face. Always remember that sleep is the time for the skin to repair. But when your pores are clogged, no regeneration happens. Bacteria breeds when the face is unclean causing pimples and flaky skin.

Wash your makeup tools and throw away old products.

Those sponges and brushes aren't meant to last forever. Even if they're very expensive, they all need to be cleaned or disposed of. All these tools collect oil, dust and dead skin cells. They can even hold residue from other products and it can easily transfer to your face.

Also, always be mindful of the shelf-life of your make up. Some last for almost a year while others for only months. Bacteria can breed and cause more damage to sensitive skin. And it goes without saying, please do not share products especially lipsticks!
