When the Korean Skincare regimen came to our shores, the sheet mask became more popular than ever. The activity itself is straightforward. The product is easy to procure, and you can bring the sheet everywhere with you. To apply, you simply open a pack, carefully unfold the mask and put it on your face. After the instructed elapsed time, you remove it off your face. It's quite a foolproof way to level up your skincare routine. For all it's great benefits and simple instructions, there are still ways we can be countering the work it is doing on our face.

Skincare is all about efficacy and effectiveness. Sheet masks can offer both for an affordable price but it's only as good as the way you use it.

Take a look at these 5 mistakes you could be making when using sheet masks.

You Skip Cleaning Your Face Before Using One

If you don't clean your face before putting on a sheet mask, you are layering the mask on top of all sorts of dirt and bacteria! You should be applying the face mask on to clean, dry skin. Wash your face first with your favourite facial wash. And then use your toner to help deep clean all the oil and traces of makeup.

You Are Applying The Mask with Dirty Hands

Clean hands are just as important as a clean face. Think of the oils or bacteria from your hands that are transferring to your face. Don't smooth a face mask on with your fingers unless you've given your hands some thorough washing.

You are Not Putting on The Mask Properly

The mask should adhere to your face. It should be like another layer of the skin. Experts suggest that you must place the mask gently on the face. "Place gently on the face matching all the cut-outs to your eyes, nose and mouth. Then smooth the whole mask down over your skin. The more the mask clings to skin and intermingles with skin, the more the essence in the sheet mask will absorb into skin, so be sure to try to keep everything hugging the skin as much as possible."

Applying Moisturiser Before the Mask

It's a common mistake to apply moisturiser before applying your sheet mask. The skin should be clean and toned before the sheet mask, moisturise after the essence has fully absorbed. To avoid skin drying, apply moisturiser.

Leaving the Mask on For Too Long

Longer doesn't necessarily mean better. This is on case in point. Leaving the mask on for far longer than instructed can harm your skin. If the mask dries up too much, a reverse might occur. The moisture you got from the mask can be sucked out of the skin and back into the dry mask. Remove the mask while it's still damp and at all time avoid falling asleep with the mask on.

Avoid these 5 sheet mask mistakes and enjoy great skin.
