How To Style The Classic White T-Shirt

No other item in our wardrobe is perhaps more versatile and timeless than the classic white t-shirt. It is simple, crisp, clean, and absolutely easy to put on. And because it is versatile, you can take it out on a casual lunch date, layer with a sleek jacket for work, or style with a fancy dress for a night out.

It is just the most perfect wardrobe staple! But why is it often dismissed or forgotten to the back of the closet?

Have you noticed how easier it is right now to buy new clothes? It seems like every month, a new fashion trend crops up, and we just need to get our hands on it. The problem is, we stuff our closets with these hard-to-match items.

They're a cute TikTok trend, a funky statement piece, or an odd colour you wouldn't wear in broad daylight! Why do we keep clothes that don't fit and don't flatter? Worst is, why do we keep hoarding these clothes and not letting them go?

Perhaps we attach a bit of sentimentality on an item? Or we're hoping against hope that one day this weirdly shaped pants will be on-trend again. Or how about hoping that a piece of clothing will fit us again. (Don't feel called out, I've experienced all of this too!)

Fashion has become even more accessible today. When we go to discount clothing stores, it's very rarely we walk out of these rabbit holes empty-handed. So we buy and collect and add more to our clothing pile. The problem with trends, especially the ones that are cheap, is that they really do go out of style.

But having a staple item in your closet changes the game. This is what the white t-shirt is all about. The easiest, most basic way to wear the white t-shirt is with another classic - a pair of slouchy jeans.

But the white t-shirt can do more than that! You can get all the variations available - V-neck, boat neck, cropped, tight, oversized, distressed - you name it. Fashionistas and expert stylists have really maximized the classic piece.

Today, we're going to check out how these Instagram influencers and fashion doyennes are transforming the white t-shirt. Cop these fashion styles - it may even work well with some of your odd purchases.

Currently sitting in the airport lounge 3 hours ahead of my flight (@tom_harrel didn't believe me when I told him 🤣) still buzzing from this trip, trying to wrap my brain around what it really means. Someone told me yesterday "I like that you don't just say things, you also act on them" and it hit me because I'm always jokingly demeaning myself, always! But when she said that, it forced me to take my own credit. I took myself to Nigeria on my own (when my mum would probably not let me go to Cameroon alone 🙈), because I really believe that more black people, more black women should benefit from our billion dollar hair market. Our hair doesn't require a head to grow on, it is synthetic, it is man made, so why not make it in Africa?! And you know what? It's happening! How crazy?! I visualise our future packaging and it's going to say MADE IN AFRICA, and omg I get the silly giggles you know 😂 I'm turning 32 in 5 months, 32 sounds so grown and mature that I've been thinking I'm not ready for it (as if I had the choice 🤔), these are boots too big to fill. But after this trip, and everything else in the pipe this month, I'm starting to think there's so much more credit I need to give myself (and you too!!!!! Okay?!)). I'm a goof, I'm ridiculously sensitive, I have a dumb accent (and I need my husband to review my captions before posting them 🙃) , but omg I'm also bloody smart and relentless 😎 These boots will be just fine, I've grown, I'm dreaming bigger, and I've got this! Thank you Lagos, I'll be back very soon! So guys, what do you say about this MADE IN AFRICA label? Love, Folake x😝
